What is GreenHearth Homestead?
GreenHearth Homestead started with a simple idea: to build something of our own, rooted in the countryside and made a little differently.
What began with a few chickens has grown into a small, independent business producing fresh eggs, traditionally milled peanut butter, plants and other small-batch goods, alongside our local van services.
We’re passionate about growing, making and doing things the old school way, the traditional way, the proper way; with an emphasis on quality, traditional methods, seasonal produce and supporting our local community.
We’re still at the beginning of the journey, but our aim is to build GreenHearth into something truly special — a thriving local countryside business, one batch, one harvest and one idea at a time.

Chan Hastings is the founder of GreenHearth Homestead, a venture built around a simple love of growing, making and learning. His journey into homesteading began with a small allotment in Northampton, where a passion for growing food and becoming more self-sufficient quickly took hold. After relocating to Telford in Shropshire, Chan bought his first flock of chickens — and, as is often the way with homesteading, one thing very quickly led to another. Chickens became eggs, eggs became a small business, and before long the idea of GreenHearth Homestead had taken root. Today, Chan oversees the day-to-day running and development of GreenHearth, with a growing collection of projects spanning poultry, rabbits, plants, handcrafted food products and practical countryside skills. A keen gardener, DIY enthusiast, fisherman and outdoorsman, Chan is happiest when he is learning something new, getting his hands dirty and finding another way to turn an idea into something tangible. His vision for GreenHearth is to build a sustainable, diverse and genuinely hands-on countryside business — growing something a little different, one batch at a time.
Dan Walmsley
Author / Business Owner
Dan Walmsley is an entrepreneur, educator, author and lifelong advocate for hands-on learning and traditional skills. He is the founder of The Stone Age Company and Outback2Basics, where he shares his passion for history, survival skills, nature and practical education with children and families. Dan is also an accomplished author of numerous educational children’s books, creating engaging resources that bring learning to life. Alongside these ventures, Dan is a co-owner of the GreenHearth Nut Butter Company, working as part of GreenHearth Homestead to develop and produce its range of handcrafted nut butters. With a passion for education, self-sufficiency, traditional skills and creating things by hand, Dan brings a unique blend of knowledge, creativity and practical experience to GreenHearth.
